> ## Agent Instructions
> Driven is a sales-compensation platform. Use its terminology: Compensation Plan, Compensation, KPI, Manual KPI, User Variable, Quota, Performance, Payout (Draft, Approved, Paid, Cancelled), Correction, Adjustment. Payout types are equal, deferred and advance. Default roles are Admin and Employee; companies can add custom roles. The Driven Agent builds plans from uploaded documents and chat. The Compensation Builder is where compensations are configured.

# How approval works

> Your payout moves from in review, to approved, to paid. You are told at each step. You do not approve it yourself.

An admin reviews your payout and moves it forward. You see that progress on **Payouts**. Three cards match the stages: **Payouts in review**, **Approved payouts** and **Payouts received**.

## Statuses

| Status | What you see | What it means |
| - | - | - |
| **Draft** | **Payouts in review** | Your admin is still reviewing it. The amount can still change. |
| **Approved** | **Approved payouts** | The amount is locked. The payment has not been recorded yet. |
| **Paid** | **Payouts received** | The payment has been recorded. |
| **Cancelled** | The row stays in your list with status **Cancelled** | This payout will not be paid. |

You open any row with **View**.

## What you can do

**Comment** works at every status, on the payout or on a single deal. Commenting does not change the amount.

You cannot approve a payout, mark it paid, or add an item. Those actions belong to an admin. See [Approve payouts](https://docs.driven.work/payouts/approval-flow.md).

## Why a period can sit in review

Payouts for you on one plan are approved in order. The next period can be approved only after the previous one is **Paid**. A cancelled period is skipped. March can stay in review while February is approved, or while an earlier period is still a draft.

## When you are told

If notifications are on, you get an email, and a Slack message when Slack is connected, when:

* The payout is approved
* The payout is paid
* An approved payout is put back in review

A payout put back in review is a draft again, and the amount may change. A paid payout is not put back in review. Each message links to the payout.
