> ## Agent Instructions
> Driven is a sales-compensation platform. Use its terminology: Compensation Plan, Compensation, KPI, Manual KPI, User Variable, Quota, Performance, Payout (Draft, Approved, Paid, Cancelled), Correction, Adjustment. Payout types are equal, deferred and advance. Default roles are Admin and Employee; companies can add custom roles. The Driven Agent builds plans from uploaded documents and chat. The Compensation Builder is where compensations are configured.

# Roles

> Every person has a role. Admin and Employee are built in. Custom roles are created under Settings, Roles.

A role decides what someone can see and change. It is set per company. A person who belongs to two companies can have a different role in each.

Change a person's role from their page, or select several people and use **Bulk Actions**, then **Change roles**.

## Default roles

Two roles exist in every company. They are marked **Read-only** and cannot be modified.

| Role | What it is for |
| - | - |
| **Admin** | Full access. Admins manage plans, approve payouts, connect integrations and administrate the company. |
| **Employee** | Sales rep access. Employees see their own plans and payouts. |

An employee who opens the [Driven Agent](https://docs.driven.work/driven-agent.md) can ask about their own payouts. They cannot build plans. Building plans, and **Use AI agent** beyond that, belongs to admins unless you grant it on a custom role.

## Custom roles

**Settings**, then **Roles**, lists **System roles** and **Custom roles**. **New role** adds a custom role. A custom role is a set of permissions you name yourself, for example a finance role that can approve payouts but cannot edit plans.

Permissions are grouped. The ones people ask about most often:

| Permission | Lets the person |
| - | - |
| **View plan** / **Edit plans** | Open a plan, or change it |
| **View compensations** / **Edit compensations** | Open a compensation, or change and publish it |
| **List payouts** / **View payout** | See the payout list, or open one |
| **Edit payouts** | Adjust deals, exclude deals, add extra items and comment |
| **Approve payouts** | Approve a payout, mark it paid, or send it back to draft |
| **View insights** | Open performance insights |
| **Use AI agent** | Use the Driven Agent |

A permission on a plan does not grant it on every plan. Company-wide access, which admins have, applies everywhere.

> [!TIP]
>
> Give finance **Approve payouts** and **List payouts** on the plans they own. Give RevOps **Edit compensations** and **Edit plans**. Leave reps on **Employee** unless they also manage a team.
